Male Entitlement and the Soft Violence of “Nice Guys”
When friendliness is treated as a down payment on women’s attention, rejection becomes an insult to male ego — and sometimes a prelude to harm.
Entitlement is the belief that someone’s body, time, or affection is owed. It shows up in street harassment (“smile”), in DMs after one like, in family pressure to marry the “good boy who waited,” and in workplaces where mentorship is confused with possession.
The Nice Guy Ledger
The “nice guy” script goes like this: I was polite → therefore you owe intimacy. When the ledger is unpaid, resentment blooms. Online, that resentment fuels incel forums, revenge porn threats, and smear campaigns.
Anti-Entitlement Culture
Teach boys that kindness is not a transaction. Teach workplaces that “I was just joking” is not a defense. Teach families that a woman’s “no” does not require a supporting affidavit.
Feminism is not cruelty. It is the refusal to treat women as emotional ATMs.
