Every woman who writes publicly learns the taxonomy: rape threats, doxxing, deepfake porn, coordinated mass reporting, and “debate me” sealions. The goal is not persuasion. The goal is exhaustion.
Platform Design Is Political
Algorithms amplify outrage. Moderation under-enforces gendered abuse. Anonymity protects harassers more reliably than survivors. “Free speech” is invoked to defend pile-ons while survivors are told to log off.
Feminist Digital Hygiene and Collective Defense
- Document threats; report patterns, not just isolated comments - Build mutual aid for doxxing response - Demand platform accountability and local legal remedies for non-consensual imagery - Refuse to treat women’s online presence as optional luxury
The public square was never neutral. Feminists are simply refusing to leave it.
